I think short talks are good, but they bring almost nothing to the table. For example, we would have learned absolutely nothing about Solr if the talk had been just 5 minutes. It was about an hour long, which was barely enough to cover the topic.
instead, I suggest we have 1 long and 1-2 shorter talks per event.

maybe it'd be easier to get more people if the talks were shorter. I love the 5 or 10-minute lightening talk format they have at some conferences
